The English Open 2025 will take place from 26 September to 5 October at Stroud Bowl, located in the Five Valleys Shopping Centre in Stroud, England. This event is one of the most anticipated scratch bowling tournaments in the UK, attracting both local and international talent. The tournament is sanctioned by the BTBA and offers a guaranteed top prize of £3,500 for the winner.
Bowlers will compete in a six-game qualifying format, with the option for unlimited re-entry to try and improve their scores. A total of 40 players will make it through to the finals. The top 28 players from the general standings will be joined by additional qualifiers, including the best performers from early squads, two players from the one-game Desperado squad, and the top women, seniors, and youth bowlers who are outside the top 28.
The finals are structured in four steps, with scores carrying forward in each round. Bowlers ranked first to sixth after qualifying will skip directly to Final Step 3, while those ranked seventh to twelfth will enter in Final Step 2. The remaining finalists begin in Step 1 and must battle through to earn their place in the final rounds. The tournament will conclude with the top eight players competing in four final games to decide who will be crowned the 2025 English Open champion.
Entry fees vary depending on the squad, ranging from £70 to £120 for first entries and £50 to £100 for re-entries. All payments are made at the venue on the day of the squad. The final deadline to register is Sunday, 21 September 2025 at 11:59 PM. The event will use Bowl4u for scoring and players must wear suitable bowling shirts, as dress code rules will be enforced.
Whether you're aiming for the top prize or looking for top-level competition in a great bowling atmosphere, the English Open 2025 promises a competitive and exciting experience in the heart of Gloucestershire.
